As part of NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Lucas Mariano was invited to design and animate a tribute to Josephine Baker: “One of the best parts of my work is being able to tell incredible stories, and Josephine’s is one of the greatest!”
Josephine Baker was a cultural icon and an important civil rights activist. NBC Sports dove deep into her story, exploring countless photos, memorable moments, and some amazing concert posters from the 1930s, ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. Recreating that old-school NYC/Paris aesthetic with touches of elegant Art Deco elements, all blended through mixed media, was an incredible journey.
