Category Description

A system of motion graphic elements within a feature-length film.

Project Description

Collaborating closely with the production team for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, we worked to understand and learn his version of Gotham City in pre-production before moving into design and VFX, delivering screen graphics to furnish this dark and dangerous world.

Graphics in the film establish the setting, develop character profiles, and support the story’s progression. Territory Studio’s team produced graphics for computers, TV networks, digital billboards, and various devices used in Gotham City sets, including the Batmobile, Batcave, and GCPD.

Each screen design instance was intentional and meticulously researched. For instance, in the Batcave, we created graphics that served as textural background lighting as well as narratively supportive elements. Their animation has a heavy, mechanical feel to it, evoking the brutish strength and logical mind of Reeves’ Batman. The technology needed to feel like he built it and it was a reflection of his approach to wearing the cape.
