Commissioned by Universal Pictures, Territory Studios transformed ILM’s Giganotosaurus asset for a series of site-specific, interactive installations, to celebrate the long-awaited release of the Jurassic World Dominion movie.
Played out on a giant 8mx8m LED screen, the experience combined real-time and pre-rendered assets with a forced perspective illusion, to give visitors an up-close encounter with a larger-than-life 3D dinosaur. The experience launched in London’s Trafalgar Square, and then toured landmark locations in Paris and Rome.
Scaling up the made-for-film asset for this purpose all required pre-planning to ensure the illusion worked. We had limited access to location sites in advance of the event, which lead us to create 3D models of the locations from LiDAR scans and shot HDR photos to help us prepare and guide the lighting, positioning, textures and other facets of the content to ensure it worked at an optimal quality for each location.
