Paul Lavau captures the complexities of youth.
Directed by Paul Lavau through Wizz, with CG Supervision from Hugo Garnier, the short film Adolescences comprises three beautifully realised scenes from that tricky period between childhood and adulthood.
In the rural setting of Yonne in Burgundy, two friends attempt to connect with subtle gestures when words fail them. In a Parisian bar a couple dance around intimacy and are left, literally, suspended in the confusion.
Finally, in Dunkirk, a lonely young woman in a dark wasteland looks on at an apocalyptic vision that hints at the existential anxiety of youth today.
I have strong memories of the mix of emotions that clashed inside me at the end of adolescence, when I was leaving childhood behind and trying to become an adult.
“How difficult it was to communicate with each other, even between close friends. ” says Paul Lavau.
