Category Description

A system of motion graphic elements intended to brand and/or present information within a television or streaming show.

Project Description

In The Arena: Serena Williams is an ESPN eight-part docuseries that reimagines the most pivotal matches of Serena’s life as cinematic, emotionally rich storytelling. The Religion of Sports animation and graphics work spanned multiple styles — from Disney-inspired storybook sequences capturing Serena’s early dreams to immersive 3D environments that visualized the psychological intensity of life on and off the court.

Religion of Sports developed a robust, broadcast-ready graphics package to track her journey through tournament brackets and beyond, balancing clarity with emotional resonance. Working with an immense volume of archival footage, they designed tools and treatments to weave historical material into the visual language of the show, enhancing context without overwhelming story.

Grounded in strong design principles, this approach fused bold typography, rich textures, and visceral 3D world-building to elevate each episode’s tone. The motion design became a storytelling engine of its own, turning Serena’s legacy into something tactile, transportive, and unforgettable.
